U.S. citizens marry illegal immigrants on a regular basis. Whether that marriage will get you a green card (U.S. lawful permanent residence) is, however, another matter.

Can Undocumented Immigrants get a divorce?
Regardless of where individuals got married, they can petition to get a divorce in the United States.

Can an Undocumented Immigrants receive Legal Aid Assistance in our State?
It is determined by case-based decisions and if grant money and resources are allocated for the program.

Can Undocumented Immigrants Get a Social Security Number?
No, they can’t.

The Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax-processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure that people—including undocumented immigrants—pay taxes even if they do not have a Social Security number (SSN) and regardless of their immigration status

Can Undocumented Immigrants Get Bank Accounts?
Some banks let you open an account with an ITIN or passport instead of a Social Security number.

What you need to open a bank account

At a minimum, a bank is required by law to obtain basic personal information from you when you open a new account. Here’s what you’ll need to provide:

  • Name and date of birth. To confirm your name and birthday, if you’re undocumented, banks typically require one of the following documents:

  • Unexpired passport.

  • Government-issued driver's license (including foreign licenses).

  • Consular ID.

  • Birth certificate.
