Florence, SC – On October 10th, 2024, Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault hosted a Donor Recognition Dinner at Central United Methodist Church in Florence, South Carolina. The event celebrated the 35th anniversary of Pee Dee Coalition's Emergency Safe Shelter (ESS) and honored the individuals, businesses, and organizations that have contributed to its success over the years.

Since 1989, the Emergency Safe Shelter Program has been a safe-haven for thousands of victims/survivors of domestic violence, offering immediate assistance during their most vulnerable moments and providing additional access to resources that empower them to continue to make positive choices. Over the past 35 years, this essential program has been made possible through the continuous support of the community and generous contributions (in-kind & monetary) from donors who share Pee Dee Coalition's vision of creating a safer, more compassionate community.

In addition to recognizing those who have played an essential role in the ESS's legacy, the Donor Dinner event also highlighted the success of Pee Dee Coalition's recent fundraising efforts. In May 2024, Pee Dee Coalition launched a regional shelter program anniversary campaign named "A Place to Lay Their Heads" aimed at raising $150,000 for significant renovations and repairs to the shelter facility. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the campaign exceeded its goal, raising $161,878 by its October 2024 closing.

The funds raised will go directly towards improving the shelter's facilities, ensuring that it continues to provide a safe “place to lay their heads” for women & children victims of domestic violence for years to come.

“I'm so excited to be a part of Pee Dee Coalition’s Emergency Safe Shelter’s 35th Anniversary.”, Shonette Dargan-Richardson, Emergency Safe Shelter Program Director. “This year our campaign initiative "A Place to Lay Their Heads" has truly been a blessing for the women and children that we are serving and will continue to serve. Because of our donors, we will be able to renovate additional office space where we can serve our clients in a personal setting. In addition, we can provide new comfortable bedding for our clients to have a safe and comfortable place to lay their heads.”

Pee Dee Coalition shares its heartfelt gratitude to all donors and community members who contributed to the success of the "A Place to Lay Their Heads" Regional Campaign, and to everyone who has supported the Emergency Safe Shelter in Florence, SC over the past 35 years. Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of victims/survivors and building a future free from violence.
